Good News for the Favourite Canary Island

A Well-Established Holiday Location

Since the 1970s, Lanzarote has enjoyed the prestige of being a favourite tourist destination, and has enjoyed steadily growing success in the subsequent decades. Recent years show the true charm Lanzarote has with its international visitors as figures continue to increase, despite the worldwide economical situation. In fact, since 2001, the annual number of visitors to the island has never dropped below 800,000, proving its status as a favourite holiday destination has never been more established.

New Facts and Figures

Statistics recently released by the Lanzarote Data Centre (Centro de Datos Lanzarote) show a very interesting shift in the island’s tourism trends. Last year shows Lanzarote seeing higher numbers in visitors in the previously-thought “quieter months”, such as February, March, June and October. These months show an average increase of 11.5% compared to 2007, suggesting visitors are cutting costs on the more expensive air fare or accommodation tariffs during the busier holiday seasons, without compromising the choice of destination.

And Why Would They?

Approximately only a 4-hour flight away for most UK and Ireland residents, the beautiful island of Lanzarote is a whole world apart from the grey skies and gloomy weather of home. Declared a National Biosphere Reserve in 1993, Lanzarote boasts one of the world’s cleanest environments. The island also enjoys year-round sunshine, warm temperatures and very low precipitation. It’s not just the ideal climate that attracts so many visitors, though. The people are friendly and there is so much on offer here. Holidaymakers have the choice of a fun-packed stay in one of the islands hotspots such as Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise or Playa Blanca. Alternatively, Lanzarote also prides itself on so much of its untouched scenery (such as the volcanic National Park of Timanfaya, or its mountainous landscape) and its sleepy little villages. Lanzarote combines perfectly Mother Nature’s work at its best with an injection of mankind’s own developments.
