Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen has been a tourist hotspot since the 1960s, and since this boom 40 years ago, the annual number of visitors attracted to the beautiful island has never dropped below 800,000, proving Lanzarote to be a very well established tourist destination. Tourism is Lanzarotes main source of income, which its economy is largely dependent on. And its not at all surprising this idyllic Canary Island should attract so many visitors, with its perfect climate with warm temperatures and low rainfall, and friendly locals and residents who are always willing to assist in making your stay here more enjoyable. Visitors flock in their thousands from all over Europe, predominantly from the UK, Ireland and Germany, and lower numbers from Scandinavia, France and Italy.

Whats on Offer

Once a small fishing village, Puerto del Carmen quickly rose to its well deserved status as Lanzarotes biggest and busiest tourist resort. Today you will find a huge array of places to eat, drink, shop, dance... or just lap up the sunshine! Puerto del Carmen starts at the Old Town, where there is a beautiful harbour and many seafood restaurants, all of which have stunning views of the mountains and the yacht-dotted sea. Puerto then extends towards the Biosfera Shopping Centre, the perfect spot for some retail therapy! There you will find many well-known shops such as Zara, Pull&Bear, Bershka, Blanco, Mango and Jack&Jones. Follow the road down and you will find yourself on what Puerto is most famous for; la Avenida de las Playas, a.k.a the Strip or the Front. Here, there is everything and anything you could possibly ask for to make your holiday complete. Along most of the left side of the Avenida, you will find a galore of bars, discos, restaurants, shops... The main spot for nightlife is somewhere midway down the Front, called Centro Atlantico, locally just abbreviated to Centro. Along most of the right side of the Avenida are beautiful sandy beaches, big enough for the thousands of visitors attracted yearly. Even the beaches vary, from vast sandy dunes with plenty of water activities on offer, to quiet rocky areas - so for every type of visitor there is a spot for you.

Naturally the accommodation in Puerto del Carmen caters for all types of people of all ages, from small private apartments for couples, to large hotels for families.
