Puerto del Carmen beachfront

Phase three of works to begin soon

Tias Town Hall will begin phase three of the improvements to the beachfront promenade on the 1st of September. The work will extend along the Avenida from Calle Guanapay to Calle Acatife. This will bring bring the new section right up to the end of the Avenida in the vecinity of the Hotel Fariones, near Club de Mar apartments and the Centro Deportivo Fariones.

Phase four planned for 2010

The refurbishment will involve widening the footpath, adding a cycle lane and converting the street to a one lane traffic system, similar to the beachfront improvements that have been carried out already in the resort. Phase four is due to be carried out in 2010 and will involve the same design being extended until Avenida Italia near the San Antonio hotel.

From Puerto Calero to Arrecife

del Carmen, connecting all the way to Puerto Calero in the south, while stretching all the way to Playa Honda and Arrecife in the opposite direction. Authorities have been encouraged by the success of the EU funded promenade in Los Pocillos and Matagorda and hope the new seafront amenities will attract more tourists to Puerto del Carmen. In addition, work is progressing on the expansion of Puerto del Carmen harbour, with the addition of mooring berths and parking spaces in an effort to regenerate the harbour area.

Improvements to benefit property sales in Puerto del Carmen

While the disruption caused has been criticized and the final result has been hotly debated locally, property in Puerto del Carmen is likely to benefit when the work is completed next year. The Puerto del Carmen property market is likely to benefit from the improved infrastructure which has already transformed the seafront into a pedestrian friendly area lined with palm trees.
